The essence of photography is light, and yet to this point in my exploration of photography, I have always employed ambient light. It is now time to start exploring the creative power of lighting itself. However, its important not to get to caught up in the expense of lighting equipment. Certainly, expensive lighting setups are great, and easy to use, but there is something to be said for creating things yourself. This photo was taken in my living room, using a single flash. I took several exposures of the scene, changing the position and intensity of the flash, and then composited the image using Photoshop. It certainly would be easier with multiple flashes, but when that option is not there, its best to get creative.
